MS Boys Basketball Falls to Saint Ed's

Eagles v Pirates 1

The middle school boys' varsity basketball team came up short against the visitng Pirates of Saint Edward's on Monday, December 10. In a hotly contested game, a last second 3-point attempt by Kylan Martin was off-line, and the Eagles fell 34-32. The loss drops the Eagles to 4-3 on the season. The middle school vasity boys will welcome the Saints from Florida State Christian Academy on Tuesday, December 11, at 5:00 PM. 


Varsity Basketball Takes 2 from MICS

The girls and boys varsity basketball teams swept away games versus Merritt Island Christian School on Thursday, December 6. The girls varsity basketball team defeated the Cougars by a score of 62-29. The Lady Eagles were led by Madelyn Macias (8 point, 7 rebounds, 6 steals, and 2 blocked shots), Brianna Matthews (20 points and 2 steals), and Michelle Hetzel (10 points and 6 steals). The team also received a solid contribution from 8th grader, Delana Crawford (8 point, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals). With the victory, the girls move to 5-1 on the season. The Lady Eagles take the court Friday, December 7, at 7:00 PM, in a District game versus Master's Academy. 

In the boys varsity game, the Eagles came out on top, 58-49. The team was led by double-double efforts from Jagger Westberry (12 points and 15 rebounds) and Ethan Roberts (12 points and 10 rebounds). The Eagles also received 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals, from James Hetzel. WIth the victory, the Eagles move to 4-2 on the season. The boys will next take the court on Monday, December 10, at Dreyfoos. 


Middle School Girls Remain Undefeated

The Middle School Girls' Varsity basketball team defeated Saint James Christian Academy by a score of 34-11, on Monday, December 3. With the victory, the team moves to 7-0 on the season. The team is led by Delana Crawford and Katie Ashby, averaging 14 points per game and 10.5 points per game, respectively. The Lady Eagles face a tough challenge on Friday, December 7, as they battle Redeemer Lutheran at 4:00PM in the upper school gym. Please come out and support the Lady Eagles!


Eagles advance to District final

October 19, 2017

Morningside Academy Lady Eagles will play in the Class 2A- District 6 championship match on Friday, October 20. With a straight set victory over #4 district seed Covenant Christian on Tuesday, October 17, the top seeded Eagles have advanced to face Merritt Island Christian at 7:00PM. The match will be held at Morningside Academy. Come out to support the Lady Eagles as they attempt to win the first District volleyball championship in school history!

Rovira Voted Athlete of the Week

October 16, 2017

Congratulations to Ciara Rovira who was named the TC Palm Reader's Choice Female Athlete of the Week for October 8. Ciara was nominanted by TC Palm for her performance on Friday, October 6, versus Merritt Island Christian. During that match, Ciara had 17 kills and 4 aces to help the Lady Eagles remain undefeated.

Due to the effects of Hurricane Irma, all matches and games through Thursday, September 14, have been cancelled. Upon our return to school, I will work with the athletic directors for our opponents to attempt to reschedule.

The matches for Friday, September 15, are still pending our return to school. I will post an update once these have been confirmed or cancelled.

Lady Eagles move to 2-0

August 28, 2017

The Morningside Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season with a three set victory over Saint Andrews Episcopal Academy on Thursday, August 24. The Lady Eagles were led by Angelica Castaneda, with 14 service aces, and Brianna Mathews with 5 service aces. Continuing their exceptional play from the Tuesday night victory over Glades Day School, Michelle Hetzel contributed 6 service aces and 5 kills, while Ciara Rovira added 5 service aces and 7 kills. The Lady Eagles look to continue their hot start to the season when they meet Master's Academy at home on Thursday, August 31, at 5:30PM. 


Lady Eagles WIN!!!

The Morningside Academy Lady Eagles swept a home match versus the Gators from Glades Day School. In the opening match, the junior varsity squad fell behind early, dropping the first set to the Glades Day School Gators. The Lady Eagles fought back to even the match with a second set win, and finished off the comeback in dramatic fashion with a 19-17 win in the third set to win the match.

In the varsity match, the Lady Eagles controlled the match from the start, with wins of 25-15 and 25-18 in the first and second sets. The Lady Gators battled back for a hard fought victory in the third set 27-25. The Lady Eagles regained control of the match in the fourth set and cruised to victory 25-12. The Lady Eagles were led by Michelle Hetzel with 10 kills and 4 service aces, Erin Mann with 4 kills and 7 service aces, and Ciara Rovira with 5 kills and 4 service aces. Team Captain, Amber Robinson, had 5 service aces and controlled the match with her efficient setting.
Both teams are now 1-0 on the season. The varsity squad will host Saint Andrews Episcopal on Thursday, August 24, at 5:00PM. Junior varsity will next take the court on Tuesday, September 5, at Brevard HEAT. We encourage you to come out and support the Lady Eagles throughout the season!
