Family:
I’ve been married since 12/20/81 to my seraphic wife Roberta. We have three children: Leah, Marianne, and Bobby. Leah, current middle school math teacher at Morningside, is married to Michael Miller, the parents of three of our grandchildren, all of whom attend or have attended Morningside: Nate, Emmi, and Carson-Paul. Marianne, a 2004 graduate of Morningside, is married to Greg Howell, a 2006 graduate of Morningside. Aurora Joy was born to Marianne and Greg in April 2020. Bobby, a 2007 Morningside grad, is married to Melissa. Next to God, I love my family more than anything!
Travelogue:
My geographic journey through life has shaped me to serve our diverse student population at Morningside. I’ve lived, schooled, taught, ministered, and imbibed life in the Bronx, NY; northern NJ; Texas; Germany; Oklahoma; back to Germany; back to Texas; Kansas; back to Germany, and now since 1992 here in Florida. My family and I have also spent many months visiting Connecticut and New England and NY/NJ/PA with journeys around the USA and some memorable return junkets to Europe.
Morningside Career:
A charter member of the administrative team at the Upper School (1996), I have been serving at the Academy since 1992. I have worked at numerous administrative and teaching roles: assistant principal; high school principal; upper school principal; international program liaison; athletic director; assistant athletic director; elementary teacher; basketball, golf, tennis, volleyball, soccer, and baseball coach (50 seasons total); high school English, Bible, and history teacher; and school counselor, mentor, point guard, and unofficial Upper School factotum and historian.
My family and I moved to Port St. Lucie in August 1992 after seven years on the mission field in Europe. The first Sunday in Port St. Lucie we began attending Morningside Church. I began teaching at Morningside in October 1992. I taught third grade and then fifth grade through May 1996. In August 1996 I moved across the boulevard to the Upper School, where I have served ever since, working individually with our circa 475 graduates and thousands of other students and their parents. I hold each of these students in my heart, and we at the Upper School have been blessed to work with so many precious students and their families!
Why I like working at Morningside?
I graduated from a Christian K-12 school some 40 years ago. I know how important my alma mater was in my development spiritually and academically. I loved every minute of high school back then, and I am able to still attend school and love every minute of my “job” now. I love encouraging, exhorting, admonishing, and mentoring our students. I see the potential and talents in each and every one of our students, and I want Morningside to hone, stretch, and challenge our students for success in college, career, family, and in their future callings. I am encouraged that so many of our graduates have excelled at the university and career levels. We are an extension of the family in that we care about the triune wellness of our students in spirit, mind, and body.
Hobbies and Interests:
Reading, history, writing, political science, gardening, cooking for the family and friends, browsing farmers’ markets, philately, the NY Metropolitans, travel, the Food Channel, emailing and uplifting friends, making people laugh, the Kansas Jayhawks, any setting where I am with my wife Roberta, the NY Giants, vacationing with my family in the NY Metro Area or abroad, encouraging others, seeing God’s beauty in creation
Favorite Bible Verse: Proverbs 3:5-6
God wants us to trust in Him with all our hearts, realizing that His ways are usually not our ways. Once we learn to trust in Him implicitly, we realize that He will direct all of our paths in life: educational, professional, relational, and spiritual.
